The recording quality music?
When listening at home, it seems that certain types of music experience offers more immersive than others. Personally, I think groups like Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Toto, America, and even provide a greater "presence" of sound in the room. It is only a subjective impression that the person or is actually a science to his or type / setting of the instruments create? Is it possible that certain groups (general public) are recorded with a better quality than the other methods?
This is a good question and I think I know the effect you are writing. I thought this in the past and here's what I think … You spoke of groups with strong rhythm sections. Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, United States depends heavily on the bass, drums and rhythm guitar. They are known to have precise time and tight musical chemistry. The rhythm section and how they blend with the rest of the band can not fully control the presence of a record. These bands also tend to use particular vocal harmonies, adding to an already great Rhythm Section. FM in Chicago, and Toto all use a little over 6 different voices singing the same line in harmony. Needless to say, that creates a lot of noise! It's hard not to feel immersed with that voice that happen. And therefore, it is recorded, mixed and mastered accordingly. My guess is that differences can be heard in listening to these tapes is somewhere between contemporary music and the mastering process in the study. Mastering is the last technique used in the registration process and can greatly influence the quality, balance and total amount of sound that passes through the final mix. Mastering is done digitally, especially in these days (although the use of a vintage reel-to-reel do) and that stimulates and reduces the parts of the song that the engineer of your choice. A narrow band with a solid pace and vocal harmonies, along with a generator of jobs skilled labor and high-end mastering any entry can stand out among the most popular music even today. Someone may have a better answer than that, but I your question before too and wanted to share my best guess!
